Off to the Races Saturday, Aqueduct 11/30
Nick’s Let’s Go Racing…
Aqueduct Race 9- The Long Island Handicap $400,000
Empress of the Nile comes in off a victory in the 1 ½ mile Zagora and is very well meant in this spot once again. Last time out she had the advantage of having a recent race over rival Homeland Security, who ran well but seemed to need a recent race under her belt and she should be better today as compared to her last for having that recent effort. Lift Up comes out of a Grade 3 victory in Canada and must be taken very seriously as she seems to never run a bad race.
My choice in this race will be Lift Up because she has rallied to get up for victories in shorter races most recently, making me believe she can make a sharper inside move which will be needed today as this field will navigate around 3 turns.
Aqueduct Race 10 – $16,000 Claiming
Talent Scout comes into this race off a 47-day freshening while finishing well in his last 3 starts, but just hadn’t been doing enough to get up for a victory. Last time out he finished very strongly in an eye popping :11 2/5ths seconds in his last 1/8th. On top of that finish he was claimed, so maybe someone else noticed the quality of his last few efforts? Since, he has had 4 works within 21 days, albeit easy breezes but it’s something one doesn’t see very often at this level. I would give Scout one more shot as it looks like the early pace will be contested by several rivals, pushing to a solid pace so Scout might get a nice ground saving trip from the rail and rally into a favorable pace scenario.
