2017 Wood Memorial Post Race

The Wood Memorial – Track Playing Fast

Irish War Cry showed more patience in the early going by sitting off the early lead back in 4th position as the pace was fair, slowly got closer the the leader by the half,  wrangled the lead away just past the 1/8th pole and opened up several lengths to the wire. Have to believe the softer early pace made a big difference in Irish having fire in the stretch along with the early patience he showed at the start. He is bred to go long and if he can rate further off the early pace he should be a factor at the finish in Kentucky.

Battalion Runner led under honest early splits and just couldn’t match strides with the winner through the stretch. Not sure if he can handle a longer distance right now in Kentucky.
