The Rebel – Post Thoughts

Surface seemed to be playing honest

Malagacy easily looked like a talented runner as he was 2 for 2 coming into today’s race and recorded both victories easily and by open lengths, however at sprint distances. Today’s challenge was asking him to get 1 1/16th miles stepping up to a Graded Stake and against a pretty deep field. Malagacy was rated off the early lead which was an honest pace, moved to contend on the final turn, wrestled the lead away by the 1/8th pole and just kept it going to the wire. The time of the race was solid and the effort by Malagacy was very good. Does he get better off this race and show more ability next time out at 1 1/8th? Not sure because it would depend on how much early speed and pace he will be facing next time. However this horse is now 3 for 3 and has just stretched out looking very good. Has license to be a good one so we will have to wait to see another effort going longer before we can decide just how good will Malagacy get at this point.

Sonneteer ran a big race as he finished well for the place coming from well off the early lead. He certainly showed great improvement as he was able to outfinish the rest of today’s field and still hasn’t won a race yet making his record 0 for 9. The fact that he finished 2nd without showing much prior ability might speak volumes when considering the rest of today’s field?

Untrapped & Petrov have no real excuses, both seem to have distance limitations right now.

Silver Dust made a strong middle move to get within striking distance but ran out of fire entering the stretch. Not sure he can improve enough to take on the top of the class right now.
